|Though my work is often primarily an exploration of color and light, I sometimes feel the need to eliminate color in order to get at the composition more directly. Printmaking and drawing have always been ways to open up possibilities in the work before adding color. The woodblock prints here were done while I was in graduate school and initially meant to be my thesis show. I finished early and continued working on large paintings which I ended up showing instead and these prints have mostly never been seen.|
The monotype prints came along a few years later once I was settled into my Berkeley studio and working on organic abstractions.
