| During this past year, I've been working on a group of paintings representing the natural life cycle of plants from seed to dispersal. The paintings respond to my perception of different times of year, light, and the elements as well. Winter is dark, wet, and full of yet unknown potential, spring brings new growth and bright supple fragility with structure, late summer ushers in a raucous, glorious finale, sometimes a little rough around the edges, and with autumn the letting go of all this year's effort. In addition to this over-reaching idea, I was initially interested in getting at what life force energy looks and feels like, as well as simple inspiration in the ubiquitous color yellow ochre which can be found almost everywhere on earth in the earth and has long been used in image making.
